Vulcanizer Archive
The Vulcanizer Archive is an ongoing, research-driven art initiative founded by Dela Anyah in 2022 that documents the informal tire repair industry across Ghana as a starting point for exploring broader global networks of tire waste, labor, and urban ecology. The project critically examines the architecture of vulcanizer shops, material cultures of tire waste and its environmental impact, patterns of migration and precarious settlement, and the everyday practices sustaining these informal labor sites. Through geolocation mapping, photography, audio recordings, visual and literary documentation, and field notes, Anyah reveals the complex socio-economic and ecological dynamics embedded within these often-overlooked spaces. The archive preserves these multifaceted materials, offering a curated selection on this site that invites reflection on the interconnected systems of labor, waste, and transformation across diverse industrial and cultural contexts worldwide.
